iPhone 11 Or iPhone 11 Pro: Is It Worth the extra $300

The late CEO, Steve Jobs, introduced and teased people with ideas about his new creation. On stage during the Macworld conference held in San Francisco back in 2007, “An iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator,” he stated. That was the start of a set of series, which, with every new edition, has brought in more buyers. All the hype around this particular product release was not without a legitimate reason.

iPhone OS 1

The original iPhone OS 1, operating system included Google Maps powered Maps app, the YouTube app, an app for iPod video and music player, threaded text messaging, Apple’s web browser Safari, HTML email, multi-touch gestures, and a Visual Voicemail. That was the start of the iconic series of mobile phones back in 2007. It’s been 10 years plus, and the company has not budged from its top-seat ever since.

iPhone 11

Apple unveiled its new flagship costing $699 – the iPhone 11 on September 10 of this year. A successor of the iPhone XR, this device has a resolution of 1792 x 828 with an LCD 6.1 inches (Liquid Retina Display) at 326ppi, 625 nits max brightness, a 1400:1 contrast ratio, a wide range of colour support and True Tone support for adjusting the white balance to the surrounding lighting.

The iPhone’s body is not much different from the iPhone XR, but Apple reckons that the body is made up of the toughest glass among the smartphones and higher water resistance. The glass body comes in six different colours: White, Purple, Green, Red, and Yellow.

This phone uses Haptic Technology, also known as 3D touch or kinaesthetic communication, for its display.

The Camera

The camera range offered on their phones is one of the top reasons the phone sells to such a huge audience. And they have not disappointed this time. Apple has introduced a new camera which has a wide ultra angle with a field view of 120 degrees.

This allows the user to capture four times more scenes. Which works fantastically for a large spread of desired shots, some being tight shots, landscape photos, and so on. The Portrait mode has improved from the previous model: from being able to shoot only people to be able to support pets, objects, and so on.

The camera has digital zooming up to 5x while supporting 2x optical zoom. This allows you to have a view of the area outside of the frame and also lets you capture pictures. A new wide camera sensor allows the phone for clear capturing of shots in low light, i.e., the Night Mode feature has been added.

The Deep Fusion, along with the next-gen smart HDR feature that uses advanced machine learning techniques, optimizes the entire user experience. Both the cameras present in the device can capture videos, with the extended dynamic range available at 24, 30, or 60fps.

The True Depth camera in the front has been upgraded to a new 12-megapixel camera, which makes face recognition up to 30 times faster. The range of angles has increased too. It is also backed up by next-generation smart HDR, which gives us a natural-looking, and it, besides, allows the user to capture slow-mo selfies and record 4k videos at 60 fps.

The spatial audio, which offers a more surrounding sound experience, has upped a notch with the Dolby Atmos support. Neural Engine, a third-generation supported by a13 Bionic 7-nanometer chip in iPhone 11, and Apple says it is the foremost chip ever in a smartphone.

The battery life span is an hour more than of iPhone XR.

iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro

Apple has confidently stated that the 6.5inch and 5.8-inch iPhone Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro are designed for the ones who want the very best smartphone available.

Pro and Pro Max design are similar to that of iPhone XS and XS, Max with the addition of textured matte finishes and the available colours being Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and never seen before colour; Midnight Green. Apple also uses the toughest glass, and the phone has improved water resistance (IP68), boosting its durability.

XDR OLED supports these two displays Super Retina.

The resolution for both are as such:

  • 6.5-inch iPhone= 2688 x 1242 resolution.
  • 5.8-inch iPhone11 Pro = 2426 x 1125 resolution

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max the HDR support, 800 nits max brightness, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, True Tone, and Haptic Touch.

Allowing better wide shots and tight shots without requiring changing the position of the camera attained by the 120-degree field of view. (ultra-wide camera feature) The telephoto lens has a wider f/2.0 aperture to shoot 40% lighter than the iPhone XS.

Similar to iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone Pro and Pro Max offer next-generation smart HDR, which gives a better quality and more natural-looking photos and allows the users to see and capture the area beyond the frame (using the wide-angle camera). But the Pro and Pro Max support 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, and digital zoom up to 10x. It also features dual optical image stabilization for both wide-angle and telephoto lenses.

Apple has a new Night Mode, which gives better quality, crisper images even in low lighting.

There is an option to choose large or telephoto framing when using Portrait Mode. It allows portrait mode with a wider field of view for multiple-person portrait shots. A new Deep Fusion feature, coming in iOS 13.2, uses advanced machine learning techniques to process photos pixel-by-pixel, optimizing texture, detail, and noise.

4 K video recording with an enhanced dynamic range is available at 24, 30, and 60fps. All video recording cameras can work with live swapping.

The True Depth camera in the front has been updated with a new 12-megapixel camera that is up to 30 times faster in face recognition. The angle range has also expanded and lets users take slo-mo selfies, or “slofies.”

Just like iPhone 11, Pro and Pro Max have inserts of the Bionic 7-nanometer A13 chip with a third-generation Neural Engine.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (and Pro Max) Compared:

Even though the basic features of the iPhone 11 series are identical and, in some cases, acceptable to overlook, there are a few features which are worth paying that extra $300.

The most significant and the most noticeable difference between 11 and 11 Pro is the addition of a camera in the latter. While the configurations of the cameras are identical, iPhone 11 has two cameras, whereas iPhone 11 Pro has three.

Display screens are different from the following basis:

  • iPhone11 features LCD (Apple calls it Liquid Retina HD) and resolution of 1792 x 828 at 326PPI
  • iPhone11 Pro features XDR OLED display Super Retina

iPhone 11 Pro also offers two different variants with the length of the phone.

One being – 5.8-inch with 2426 x 1125 resolution

The other – 6.5-inch with 2688 x 1242 resolution

  • The digital zoom in iPhone11 is 5x whereas it is 10x in iPhonePro
  • The iPhone11 comes in six colours, including White, Black, Red, Green, Purple, and yellow. The red, also called Product (red) is for a charitable cause. By buying Product (red), one will be contributing to fight against Aids and HIV.

The Pro series has a textured matt finish available in Midnight Green, Space Gray, Silver and Gold, a lineup, first of its kind.
